Backup & Sync: Guardian of Your Digital Forest 🛡️

“A good gardener prepares for rainy days. In MononoMori, we provide a dual protection mechanism: seamless Cloud Sync and reliable Local Backup.”

☁️ iCloud Auto Sync

MononoMori is built on Apple CloudKit, providing a native cloud sync experience for your data.

Core Features

  • Seamless Sync: As long as you are signed in with your Apple ID and iCloud Drive is enabled, data (including images) automatically stays consistent across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • Real-time Updates: Changes on one device usually appear on others within seconds.
  • Privacy & Security: Data is stored directly in your private iCloud space; developers cannot access it.

How to Enable

  1. Go to Settings > Data Management.
  2. Ensure “iCloud Sync” switch is ON.
  3. Check status indicator: ”✅ Synced” means data is safe.

⚠️ Note: Sync ≠ Backup. iCloud Sync is real-time. If you accidentally delete an item on one device, that deletion syncs everywhere. Therefore, regular Manual Backups are still crucial.

💾 Manual Backup Strategy

To prevent accidental operations or account issues, we recommend the “3-2-1 Backup Rule”. In MononoMori, this is easily done via “Forest Migration (Export)”.

1. Monthly Full Backup

  • Action: Export as .forest format (includes images).
  • Storage: Save to your computer hard drive or external USB.
  • Purpose: “Cold Backup”. Ensures data safety even if iCloud fails catastrophically.

2. Key Milestone Backup

  • Action: Export a backup before major reorganizations, mass deletions, or lending your phone to kids.
  • Storage: Save to a local folder in the iOS “Files” app.
  • Purpose: Instant “Regret Button”. Restore via Import to revert to the pre-cleanup state.

🔄 Cross-Device & Family Sharing

Cross Apple ID Transfer

If you need to transfer data to a family member using a different Apple ID (e.g., sending a “Kitchen Inventory” list to a partner):

  1. Filter and Export data (.forest or .csv) on your device.
  2. Send via AirDrop.
  3. Recipient chooses “Import (Seed)” -> “Merge Mode”.
    • Tip: Merge mode automatically deduplicates and adds only new items.

Family Collaboration

Currently, MononoMori syncs via iCloud for single-user multi-device scenarios. For multi-user real-time collaboration (e.g., couple managing one account), while technically possible (shared Apple ID), we recommend periodic “Export & Share” to keep each other updated and avoid accidental overwrites.

🔒 Data Security Promise

  • Local First: App works perfectly offline. Data is saved locally and uploads when online.
  • End-to-End Encryption: Leveraging iCloud’s encryption, data is encrypted during transmission and storage.
  • No Tracking: We do not harvest your item data for commercial analysis.

Protecting data is protecting memories.
