Browsing vs. Selection: Two Different Tasks

When exploring your forest, you naturally open woodlands, drill down into nested locations, inspect items, and navigate back. In contrast, when adding or moving an item, you interact with a location picker to explicitly designate a storage destination. The former helps you inspect spaces; the latter assigns where an item record lives.

Navigating Nested Woodlands and Locations

1. Open the Forest tab from the bottom navigation bar.
2. Tap a target woodland to view its contained locations or items.
3. If a location contains sub-locations, tap it to explore deeper.
4. Tap any item to inspect its complete detail card.
5. Tap the back button in the header to return up one level.

Certain screens present newly opened spaces as stacked sheet cards. These sheets preserve the visual context of parent spaces; use the visible back button or dismiss handle to return up one level rather than seeking complex gesture shortcuts.

Selecting Locations During Item Creation

When opening the Add Item form, navigate to the Location section to choose your target woodland and sub-location. The picker lets you trace down through your spatial hierarchy. Once selected, verify the full breadcrumb path shown in the form before saving.

If a suitable sub-location does not yet exist, you can dismiss the form, create the new location within the Forest view, and return; or assign the broader woodland first and refine the specific shelf later.

Confirming Destinations When Moving Items

When moving an item from its detail card or list view, select the target woodland and sub-location, and carefully verify the full breadcrumb path before confirming. When names are similar (e.g., “Top Shelf”), pay close attention to which room or parent cabinet it belongs to.

Move items only when their physical real-life location has changed. If you simply want to make an item easier to discover under different topics, use tags rather than reassigning physical locations.

Handling Incorrect Location Selections

• Still in the picker sheet: Return up one level and reselect the intended woodland or sub-location.
• Already saved: Open the item detail view or edit form, update the location path, and re-save.
• Uncertain where it physically lives: Avoid guessing specific sub-shelves; assign the general woodland area and refine the sub-location once confirmed.

Navigating Stacked Sheets Without Getting Lost

Some forest detail views slide up from the bottom as layered modal sheets, featuring a grab handle bar and back button at the top. The grab handle dismisses the current layer, while the back button returns to the immediate parent level. When drilling through several nested spaces, rely on the visible back button rather than repeatedly tapping the bottom “Forest” tab icon.

Follow this simple navigation routine:

1. Confirm the active sheet’s title (woodland name, location name, or item name);
2. Check the “Located in” breadcrumb line displayed beneath the header;
3. Tap back once when finished, verifying that the parent title matches your expected hierarchy;
4. If an incorrect space was opened, navigate back before adding items so new records are not placed in the wrong path.
